Our agency believes that involved and nurturing fathers are critical for healthy family relationships and child development. We are committed to teaching males how to be effective parents providing emotional support and continuous engagement with children. We are pleased to offer the Nurturing Fathers Program through our agency.
The Nurturing Fathers Program is an evidence based, 13-week training course designed to teach parenting and nurturing skills to men. Each 2 ½ hour class provides proven, effective skills for healthy family relationships and child development.
Our Facilitator
Mr. Sherman Thompson is a trained and skilled facilitator of the Nurturing Father Program curriculum. Mr. Thompson has been provided numerous programs in a variety of local settings. Currently, he is employed with our agency working with our adult programming as a case manager. Through this program, he witnesses that lives have been transferred and families have been healed.
Mr. Thompson became a consultant and trainer for the Nurturing Parents Program in 2003. He immediately took his passion to Gaston Correctional Center in Dallas, North Carolina where he currently teaches as a volunteer. The Gaston Gazette has chronicled the success of the program from 2004 to present.
Mr. Thompson has received recognition as the 2007 recipient of One of Gastonia's Most Outstanding Citizens Award for his contribution to religion from Las Amigos Gaston's chapter, 2008 Dallas Correctional Volunteer of the Year, 2008 award from the Governor of North Carolina for Outstanding Services to the Citizens of Gaston County. He is a graduate of Belmont Abbey College and is married to Jocelyn Pharr Thompson.
